Pype founder’s new platform analyses and extracts project information from construction drawings
When Sunil Dorairajan sold Pype to Autodesk in 2020, the entrepreneur still had more ideas about how an artificial intelligence-powered platform could assist in preconstruction and beyond.

On Sept. 10 Wyre announced $5 million in pre-seed and seed funding. The seed round was led by Ironspring Ventures, with participation from WND Ventures (the corporate venture arm of DPR Construction) and Virginia Innovation Partnership Corporation (VIPC). The round also included angel investments from construction tech figures such as Motif CEO Amar Hanspal (also a former Autodesk co-CEO), Rajesh Ram (co-founder and chief growth officer at Egnyte), and Joseph Khoury (vice president of Preconstruction and co-founder of MCN Build).
“I spent a decade in preconstruction and operations before I ever built software for it,» Dorairajan said. «The job hasn’t fundamentally changed. A few people read thousands of pages under a deadline and hope nothing gets missed. That isn’t a staffing problem—it’s a technology problem.»
Dorairajan said Pype proved construction documents could be made machine-readable. «With Wyre, we’re going further—turning them into scopes teams can bid on and risks they can act on before a project ever breaks ground,» he said.
Wyre Scopes uses machine learning to analyze an entire document set, identify every scope of work and deliver traceable scope packages to be refined by preconstruction teams. Wyre also offers Wyre Check, an AI-powered service that checks the documents and resulting shop drawings for clashes. Dorairajan says the company has invested in developing models powerful enough to decipher and translate document sheet sets into scopes.
«We have our own trained model data, and we have tagged information by our subject matter experts who validated the information for all of these scopes» Dorairajan said. «That’s where we are building our [intellectual property] layer.»

Dorairajan said having subject matter experts in from the start will help separate Wyre from an increasingly competitive field of document review AIs. Wyre is going up against industry players such as Procore’s DataGrid, Trunk Tools and of course his old company Pype, now at Autodesk. Wyre is already being tested by roughly a dozen contractor customers in various stages of deployment.

Wyre also brought in Varada Pyda as chief technology officer. Pyda was previously head of engineering at Pype, and was most recently leading AI solutions at Autodesk Construction Solutions before rejoining Dorairajan at Wyre.
