OSHA probes fatal equipment accident at El Paso construction site
An employee of an El Paso, Texas, construction equipment supplier died on Sept. 2 while performing maintenance at a construction site in the city.
According to a statement from the El Paso Police Department, 36-year-old Ramiro Aaron Sanchez, an employee of Wagner Equipment, was working on heavy machinery around 10 a.m. when the equipment fell on him, resulting in his death. «At this time, no foul play is suspected, and the investigation remains ongoing,» the police statement added.
Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation permit records show active construction underway in the same area as the accident, tied to the Sage Park development at 7255 Paseo Del Norte, including a four-building shell project and two interior buildouts with completion dates between September and December 2026. It is not confirmed whether the accident site is one of these permitted projects.
According to local media reports, Sanchez died at the scene. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration also responded to the incident and is investigating working conditions and machinery maintenance protocols at the site. No contractor has been identified.
«We are saddened by the tragic incident that occurred,» said Wagner Equipment in a statement posted on social media. «Our thoughts are with the individual’s family, friends, and all those affected.»
The statement added: «Wagner Equipment is cooperating with the appropriate authorities and, because the investigation remains ongoing, we are not in a position to comment further at this time.»
